Please consider coming to New Brunswick, Canada, just next door to Maine. We have our own garbage gyres. I know this from having coordinated and participated in beach cleanups in the Bay of Fundy (on and offshore--ie., on islands). Floating masses of plastic debris are not uncommon. Several municipalities still dump untreated sewage into the ocean and this must stop. An island we frequent has bird nests FULL of plastic debris, bags, string, everything one can imagine. I fear the birds' stomachs are also full of same.
Keep up the good work. I am pleased that someone is doing something about this shameful human relic.

Marcus!
Come to Richmond, VA and let me know how I might accommodate you! Please know that you have a place to stay for as long as you like. As for potential programming venues, I can track down folks at the Science Museum of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Richmond. I also know the folks at the Fountain Bookstore, a wonderful independent bookseller downtown--I am sure they would be interested in having you do a book signing.

This is awesome! I'm so glad to hear that research is being done in the Atlantic now, and that you are getting the east coast involved! I'm originally from Maryland, but I go to school in Myrtle Beach, SC now. I'm currently organizing the Think Outside the Bottle campaign at Coastal Carolina University and would love to find a way to get involved with this! The campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the bottled water industry, and since plastic water bottles are finding their way into our oceans every day, I think bringing this up to CCU would be a step in the right direction. If there's any information you could send me on getting involved, please do! Thank you and thanks for making a difference!

This project sounds fantastic! Educating the public and seeing the East Coast, what could be better?
I'd love to get involved with this/learn more!
Thanks :)

Hello,
I am really grateful you are doing the research on the Atlantic Gyre. I would like to find out if it is at all possible for you to come to Atlanta.
GreenPlate is a non profit here in Atlanta that was started to raise awareness about the environmental and health issues related to disposable plastic. We'd love to have an event to promote what you are doing and learning.
Thank you.

Would love to keep up to date on this - are you taking volunteers to join in? We live in NJ and would love to know when you will be coming to this area.
Thanks so much for all that you are doing!
