(Marcus Eriksen reporting from St. Ignace)
The Flagship Niagara saw service in the war of 1812, but this week she’ll be studying plastic pollution in Lake Michigan as we sail from St Ignace to Chicago. We’ve found plenty of microplastics in three of the Great Lakes last year, and now we’re looking in new territory, the last of the 5 lakes left for us to explore. The question is: is Lake Michigan plastic polluted?
Unfortunately, we expect to find similar results to our research last year. But here’s the good news; the micro-beads we found are being phased out of products which is good news for The Great Lakes. If you haven’t taken action yet, please do so now!Tags: ban the bag chicago, Great lakes plastic, Lake Michigan expedition, marine debris, marine litter, plastic pollution
